ACCESSIBILITY

Accessibility statement.

Everyone should be able to read this site comfortably. Here is what that means in practice, and how to tell me when it falls short.

My commitment

I want claretenewaa.com to be usable by as many people as possible, whatever device, browser or assistive technology you bring. The site is designed with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 in mind, and for colour contrast it goes beyond the standard AA level: every text and background pairing on the site meets the stricter AAA ratio of 7:1, with the lowest measured pairing at about 11:1.

What is in place

Concretely, the site offers:

  • High-contrast colour pairings throughout, at WCAG AAA level.
  • A visible focus outline on every link, button and control, so keyboard navigation never loses its place.
  • A skip link to jump straight to the content, and one clear heading structure per page.
  • Text descriptions (alt text) on every image.
  • Underlined links inside body text, so links are findable without relying on colour.
  • Respect for the “reduce motion” setting: if your device asks for less movement, animations are turned off and nothing stays hidden.
  • No autoplaying media, no flashing content, and no time limits on anything.
  • Layouts that reflow for small screens and stay usable when text is zoomed.

Known limitations

The portrait photos are rendered in the site’s two-colour style; their alt text describes what they show. Blog posts may occasionally embed third-party content that does not meet the same standard as the rest of the site. If you find anything else that gets in your way, I would genuinely like to know.

Feedback

If any part of this site is hard to use with your setup, email [email protected] and tell me what happened and what you were using. I usually reply within two working days, and accessibility reports go to the top of the list.
